about me

Kate Perna fell in love with the practice of yoga immediately after attending her first class in 2005. She received her 200 hr. certification in July 2009 through the Advanced to Master Program with Sondra Loring and Raghunath and is particularly drawn to Vinyasa, where movements are initiated and connected by the breath. She also holds a certification from the Niroga Institute for Teaching Yoga to At-Risk Youth and has studied with Nischala Joy Devi, which earned her a Yoga of the Heart certification. She wishes it were possible to express the depth of her gratitude for this path and for the grace of her teacher, who continues to instruct her on asana and the art of living well.

She is heavily influenced by Buddhist philosophy and the teachings of Pema Chodron who says that, "Buddhism is for those who do not wish to wait." Her goals are to say "yes" to life, to be an advocate for peace, and to cultivate the courage to be transparent. She believes whole-heartedly in the power of yoga to transform and heal.

She holds an M.S. in Secondary Education and is the Founder/Co-Director of Bent on Change, a non-profit organization that works to bring yoga and mindfulness practices to at-risk and underserved populations. Read more about her work in the community through www.bentonchange.org.
